Complete Criteria List For GERD Osteopathic Research
INCLUSION
Exclusion
osteoporosis medication (bisphosphonates), pain relievers (constant use)
During this research study if there is:
- GERD diagnosis date: __________________ (minimum 3 months); current symptoms can be infrequent but persisting
- Female or male age 20-65 yrs _______
- English writing, reading, speaking
- Medicated or non-medicated for GERD with persistent symptoms (3 months and longer)
- Concurrently experience coughing with your reflux and/OR chronic sore throat related to GERD
- Ambulatory and with transportation
- Duration of study: 13 weeks (85 days) participation
Exclusion
- Recent surgeries within the last 6 months especially abdominal related
- Acute or recent major injuries within a 6 month time period including fractures, head trauma (concussion), motor vehicle accident
- Pregnancy, or post-natal within the last 6 months
- Neurological disorders affecting brain and/or spinal cord
- Currently diagnosed and suffering from cancer, diabetes mellitus
- Currently undergoing treatment for Helicobacter pylori bacteria and/or ulcers
- Currently requiring surgery for hiatus hernia
- Current use of recreational drugs and/or other substance e.g. Alcohol, smoking
- Eating disorder e.g. Anorexia nervosa, bulimia
- BMI 35 or greater
- Currently on medication(s) that aggravates GERD:
osteoporosis medication (bisphosphonates), pain relievers (constant use)
- Receiving any other forms of manual therapy concurrently during this research study
- Excluded if continuing other osteopathic treatment during the research study period.
During this research study if there is:
- Change in medication – new or dosage
- Presence of a disease that requires medication
- Surgery
- Beginning another treatment for GERD or non-GERD related
